Many spas have facilities where couples can soak, steam and indulge together. Some will have specific tubs that are large enough for two, or private treatment rooms designed for couples - and most will offer side-by-side massages, manicures and facials.
Kate House, one of our beauty specialists, has picked her favourite places to enjoy the company of a loved one while caked in therapeutic mud. Call us for more details or to make bookings at spa hotels in the UK, Europe or anywhere else in the world.
The Marine Spa at St Brides Spa Hotel
Saundersfoot, Pembrokeshire, SA69 9NH
Couples treatment: double treatment room and wet relaxation lounge
One-hour treatment: £65 per person. Spa access is £25 for non-guests and free for guests
The Marine Spa has a panoramic view of Carmarthen Bay from its cliff-top perch and, when the tide is in, the warm waters of its infinity pool seem to rush through the floor-to-ceiling windows to join the surf of the Celtic Sea. Kate says: ‘I've stayed here and the spa is high quality, with a fantastic contemporary design. The view over the bay from the infinity pool and treatment room is spectacular.'
Cowshed at Babington House
Babington near Frome, Somerset, BA11 3RW
Couples treatment: Mud Room treatment, therapeutic baths, facials and massages
Mud Room, massage and speedy facial: £270 for 150 minutes
The Cowshed Spa at Babington House was completely refurbished in 2008, and offers a host of treatments for couples. ‘The baths are big enough for two and they overlook the Victorian walled-gardens, while the warm and calm Mud Room has a range of therapeutic mud treatments designed to stimulate the senses,' says Kate. After being steamed, scrubbed and rinsed, there are facials and massages for couples in the double therapy room.
The Lanesborough
Hyde Park Corner, London, SW1X 7TA
Couples treatment: Serail steam room treatment with therapeutic muds, massages
Serial room: £90 for two. One-hour massage: £85 per person
‘The Lanesborough's Serail steam room, based on a traditional Arabian spa ritual, is ideal for a discreet and luxurious joint treatment,' says Kate. Beneath a sky of twinkling lights, couples soak up the restorative properties of special mud that benefits the skin and respiratory system. At the end of the treatment, warm water gently rains from the ceiling, washing the mud away. The Lanesborough also offers massages for couples in its therapy rooms.
Spa InterContinental
Park Lane, London, W1J 7QY
Couples treatment: champagne and canapés in private lounge, range of treatments available in twin room.
One-hour treatment: £90 per person. Champagne and canapés: £20 per person.
There's only one way to make a deluxe spa treatment even more luxurious: throw in some champagne. The Spa InterContinental has a private lounge where bubbly is served alongside canapés before a pampering session in the twin treatment room.
Renaissance Chancery Court London
252 High Holborn, London, WC1V 7EN
Couples treatment: private hire of the Harmony Suite, with double shower and spa facilities for two
One-hour treatment for two people, plus 30 minutes' relaxation: £230.
The Renaissance is one of the few places where couples can hire a large room in which to have a complete treatment package. The Harmony Suite is fitted with spa and massage facilities for two, as well as a steam shower big enough for a couple to get ready in together. The room is booked for an additional 30 minutes after the treatment so that guests can relax.
Perfectly at Home
If it's complete privacy you're after, then we can arrange for the therapists to come to you. Kate says: ‘Perfectly at Home will bring music, candles and all the treatments they need to turn your home into a spa for the night. We can also arrange picnic hampers filled with luxury canapés and champagne to complete the evening.' Our specialists can also recommend image consultants, hairdressers and make-up artists, as well as put together gift sets of beauty and pampering goods.
