Members have consulted us when renting because:
- They want something unusual – a vintage car for the weekend, or a private jet in Greece.
- We have access to the best suppliers in the field.
- They want good rates on planes, boats and cars – and we know how to charter them.
We have rented cars, helicopters, super yachts and hovercrafts for members on holidays and work-related trips. Cars are a frequent request, but most specialist vehicles are simply not available from mainstream rental companies such as Avis or Hertz. Without knowledge of dedicated suppliers, some models can be hard to track down, but we have access to a wide range of specialist rental companies and members' clubs. Our car expert Jonathan Newall says: 'We helped one member hire a Bentley Continental GT, and another was delighted when we organised a bus and willing driver for a group of boisterous, birthday party-bound eight-year-old boys.'
Renting a boat is very different to picking up a hire car from the airport. Boats over a certain size, such as super yachts, often need to be chartered and come with a full crew. We can sort out these details. 'We recently chartered a super yacht for a family on holiday in the Bahamas,' says Jonathan.
Plane, helicopter and hovercraft hire are small, specialist markets, but we have access to them. Jonathan says: 'We recently chartered a 16-seater Hercules private jet from Dubai to Morocco for one member.'
We can also organise track days at racing circuits, either in a member's own car or in something with more zip, such as an Aerial Atom (a mini Grand Prix-style car). 'We even set up helicopter lessons for one thrill-seeking member,' says Jonathan.
Insider tips:
- Chartering a boat doesn't necessarily guarantee a crew. Make sure to ask for one if needed.
- In some waters a captain's licence is required to drive certain boats. Ask us to look into this.
- Catering is often available on hired boats and planes. We can check.
- Helicopter prices vary depending on whether the model has a twin (more expensive) or single (less expensive) engine.
- When renting a helicopter, prices drop if you don't use airports or airfields. You can take off and land in a large garden.
- Don't speed around a circuit on a track day if you're not in decent physical shape or you have a heart condition.
- If it's your first track day, don't use your own car.
- If you hire a car for the weekend and don't like it, just drive straight back in and change it.
